Here at Bulb, we are happy to help all members of the family. We have a special interest in treating pregnant women and children of all ages.

 What is Osteopathy

Early stages of pregnancy are often associated with nausea, morning sickness, headache, fatigue and dizziness. As you reach the second trimester, the extra weight of the growing uterus creates a shift in the body’s centre of gravity. This extra weight gain and hormonally controlled ligamentous laxity can cause generalised back pain, sciatica from pressure on the sciatic nerve and pubic symphysis or sacroiliac joint pain from instability. Underlying scoliosis or structural asymmetries from trauma, previous pregnancies or congenital deformities can contribute to pain or a compromised uterine environment for the developing fetus.

The goal of osteopathic treatment for pregnant women here at bulb is to maximize your body’s ability to adjust and compensate for the changes associated with pregnancy as efficiently as possible.

Post pregnancy some women experience back pain or begin to suffer menstrual pain. These symptoms can be caused by ligamentous laxity and muscular weakness. Another common complaint in breastfeeding mothers is mid and upper back pain from postural strain.

Post pregnancy treatment at bulb includes advice on breast feeding and sleeping posture and strengthening exercises for your pelvic floor and abdominal stabilising muscles.

What is Osteopathy

Osteopathy recognises the particular stresses on the body children experience as they grow from babies to teenagers, and has developed an approach to work with children of all ages.

A range of problems may interfere with the normal development of a child. Childhood accidents and falls, or simply the young body's rapid growth can create or contribute to problems associated with bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. Other issues faced by children include posture problems, inflammatory conditions and sporting injuries.

Here at Bulb, will work with you and your child to plan the best way forward. We will take a complete medical history, conduct an examination, and ask you and your child questions. Your osteopath and you can determine which type of osteopathic treatment is most appropriate, and if referrals to other health practitioners are needed. Your osteopath can also offer advice on general nutrition and health, posture and exercise.

Conditions that we treat in children and teenagers include:

  • back pain and headaches

  • growing pains in muscles, bones and joints

  • postural problems including curvature of the spine

  • walking difficulties or foot pain

  • sporting injuries

  • the physical effects of cerebral palsy

Osteopathic care is gentle without the use of drugs or surgery. It can assist the young body to adapt to growth-related changes which may prevent other health problems. It aims to allow your baby to grow into a healthy child and, ultimately, a healthy young adult.

Osteopaths treat babies, children and teenagers for a range of conditions. Early treatment may prevent other problems from occurring.
