A Doula is a trained and experienced birth support companion. The word ‘doula‘ comes from the ancient Greek meaning “a woman who serves”.
Many studies have highlighted the huge difference a birth doula can make to labour and birth. In parts of the US and Europe, doulas are an integral part of the birthing and postnatal team.
Amelie's main role is to enable the birthing parent to work more intuitively with their needs and body, birth their way and evaluate their choices and options before, during and after labour. She provides physical and emotional comfort during labour. She always works alongside other care providers and medical teams for the best possible outcome.
In addition or as a separate package to the birth support, in a postpartum role, Amelie attends to the new family at home after the birth. The journey isn’t over once baby has arrived, it is just starting! She'll visit you in the comfort of your own home, usually during the first twelve weeks, but it can also be anytime during the first 6 months.
Amelie also specialises in yoga for pregnancy and birth.
Yoga can be a precious prenatal practice (and life-long tool!) to safely address the common aches & pains caused by all these body changes, to manage stress and the emotional ups & downs.
Amelie uses postures which help women feel strong and flexible, guided breathing and relaxation to help with sleep problems, exercises and visualisation for pain perception but also many postural tips and some homework to increase the chances of a shorter labour.
